Fabulous Fat Fanny #1

I was raised around many strong Southern ladies who could hold their own. They made their way in life without the help of anyone. Their lives are empowering to me and have inspired me from childhood. Making strides for women is my passion.

Right up until my first daughter was about three, I thought I was going to have a successful full-time career, be the world's best mother- complete with nothing but home cooked meals and handmade tutus both compliments of moi- and wife to my precious husband. It didn't take me long in my perfectionist world to realize things don't always work in real life the way we dream them in our minds. "All or nothing" is so leftover from college; balance (let's be real- it's juggling) is so "in" right now.

Come to find out there are many things I can do to make strides for women without a career. As we speak, I'm making my own batch of strong, confident, independent and self-sufficient Southern belles. And how better to teach than by example? Recently, I've taking to task my husband's honey-do list. I planted 30 shrubs in one afternoon. I spread 10 bales of pine straw in just over an hour. I hung my pendant lights in my kitchen from my 13' ceiling. I know how to drive stick shifts.

Please don't confuse me with a bra-burning feminist or a man hater. I am neither. Men are wonderful and serve a purpose on this Earth. Everyone should be self-sufficient. I believe men should know how to cook a meal, sew a button, and launder clothes. I just like to know that I can hold my own. I am just as deeply tickled as the next Southern girl every time a man stands up when I arrive at a dinner table.

It's no surprise that my favorite movie of all time is Fried Green Tomatoes. "Towanda" says it all for me. It's been my life's motto.
